A Mere Passing Thing, Platform Arts, Geelong, 2023

Exhibition Site: https://platformarts.org.au/events/a-mere-passing-thing

A Mere Passing Thing explores death and its associated states of mind, such as rumination and denial. Medieval references like the Danse Macabre, Ars Moriendi, trickster and fool create a framework for interrogating these reactions. This exhibition further develops a body of work created for my Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours).

Dirt Nap, Sauerbier House, Adelaide, 2023

Exhibition Site: https://www.onkaparingacity.com/Arts-events-tourism/Events-directory/%5BGRAFTd%5D-Exhibition-November-2023-Emma-Winkler

Dirt Nap opens up the topic of death through humour and absurdism, using paintings and an animation to explore reactions and approaches to one’s inevitable demise. This exhibiton reinstalls previous paintings alongside a new digitally drawn stop-motion animation examining the role of obsession and anxiety in superstitious behaviours.

Work In Progress

Collaged References

Collages create through a combination of digital and manual processes to be used for large scale and medium scale oil, acrylic and spray paintings. These works are connecting themes of anxiety, failure, perfectionism, magic tricks, performance and death, drawing upon my unique upbringing within a set of fraternal triplets (my sisters are identical and I am not).
