Moorabool Art Pathway Program Portfolio
Artist Bio
Emma Lyn Winkler’s practice explores the unknown, death, failure and the absurd. She works with collage, painting and video. Her process uses personal photographs, developmental notes and my found imagery database to create collages, large-scale paintings and hand-painted animations. At the core of her practice is the question of how to deal with death as the ultimate, inescapable unknown. Drawing on fears and experiences growing up, her work explores approaches to death, within the context of Western culture and an overwhelming sense of powerlessness towards issues such as climate change.
Past Work
A Mere Passing Thing, Platform Arts, Geelong, 2023
Exhibition Site: https://platformarts.org.au/events/a-mere-passing-thing
A Mere Passing Thing explores death and its associated states of mind, such as rumination and denial. Medieval references like the Danse Macabre, Ars Moriendi, trickster and fool create a framework for interrogating these reactions. This exhibition further develops a body of work created for my Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours).
